# Marketplaces vs. Non-Marketplaces ## Overview Ryft's payment platform is designed for the **marketplaces** model as well as the **Direct-to-Consumer (D2C)** and **retail** models, providing flexible payment solutions tailored to each type of business model. ## Marketplaces Ryft's payment solutions are ideally suited for **marketplaces** that take payments on behalf of third-party vendors. It provides a comprehensive platform for managing and automating multi-party payments flows, ensuring KYC/AML and PSD2 compliance, and enhancing the user experience for both buyers and sellers. In particular, Ryft's platform is designed to handle the complexities of marketplace payments, including vendor payouts, split payments, fee management, and risk assessment by providing the following advantages: - It allows Marketplaces to sell services and products from multiple vendors under the Marketplace owner's umbrella. - It gives complete control over how payments are split between the Marketplace and its vendors. Marketplaces can: - Choose to charge a flat fee or a percentage of the transaction amount to the vendor (Sub-Accounts); - Decide whether the vendor (Sub-Account) or the Marketplace (Main Account) pays the transaction fees; - It supports the transfer of funds from/to Sub-Accounts within the marketplace, allowing for scenarios where merchants may owe money to the marketplace or vice versa or to recoup losses from particular Sub-Accounts in case of refunds or chargebacks. This flexibility allows marketplaces to tailor their payment structures to best suit their business and vendor relationships. ## Non-Marketplaces Ryft also supports businesses who **aren't using the marketplace model** and do not require vendor management or complex payment flows. For these businesses, Ryft offers a simplified payment processing solution that focuses on direct transactions between the business and its customers. This includes features such as: - Direct payment processing to the business's main account. - Single payments without the need for vendor management. - Omnichannel payment processing for online and in-person transactions - Strong customer authentication with 3DS - Real-time event notifications and transaction monitoring This streamlined approach allows non-marketplace businesses to efficiently manage their payment processing without the additional complexities associated with marketplace transactions.
